I enjoy making banners and sometimes they turn out to be better than my icons... okay... most of the time. This will be my banner dumping zone, where all the pretty little banners will be stored and will also serve as an example of my mighty banner making skills for those looking for a banner maker to their community.

This is what interrupted my quiet day at home today. Another school shooting. It's not even a year from the previous one in Finland.

I live about 150km away from Kauhajoki. One of my best friends is from a town close-by. She will probably know people from the vocational school where the shooting happened. I have two friends who lived in Jokela and have been students in the very same school. My best friend was in the same school and year as the Myyrmanni bomber. This is such a small country that it is virtually impossible to not be somehow touched by these awful events. You will the very least know someone who knows someone who lost a friend.

It angers me how our society makes it so hard for young people to get help for their mental issues. I should know because I have been there. I see it every day in my school. I don't want a police nation, but really why do they not do anything when a student suddenly starts to wear racist shirts at school or behaves aggressively. Teachers say everyone has their right to their opinion and the right to dress like they want, but still they do manage to complain to girls about too short skirts and too revealing tops and completely ignore the possible signs of mental illness or violent behaviour. It's so easy to pay attention to the little things that hardly matter. It's much more difficult to try to help severely depressed teenager. I think that most of the time they are just too scared and lost to even try.

It also angers me that these idiots who are responsible of school shootings think they will be remembered forever for this shit they did. Their names may be written in some list of school killers and will be printed on newspaper articles from time to time as a piece of a statistics when another idiot shoots innocent people in another school. Such a noble way to become part of history. Really... wouldn't you rather just kill yourself and let your family deal with your suicide than leave them forever in the shadow of a murderer. They can never escape that.

My thoughts go out to everyone who have been touched by this particular school shooting and all the similar events before this one. I can't even begin to image what you are going through.

To get things started I'm posting 10 icons I whipped up today using the fabulous photos by Ellen von Unwerth. I'm not entirely satisfied with all of them, but decided to post them anyway to begin from somewhere. I have also entered my first ever icon challenge, which I'm super-excited about. I'll try to enter more in the coming week and make some gymnastics icons from the caps I took tonight.
